USS Clarion River LSMR 409/189

2001 Reunion - Orlando, Florida

patches.JPG (11024 bytes)      The 2001 reunion in Orlando, Florida, was a huge success. Duane and Terry Lewis wish to thank all of the ladies for their help in setting up hors d'oeuvres and clean up. They wish to thank Bob England, David Maldet, Nick Yashko and Earl Billings for the liquid refreshments and hats. Duane and Terry did a great job arranging accommodations, transportation to functions and arranging a Sea World Luau with great food and a performance.

Captain Stewart was there with a number of the LSM(R) 189 crew members. A number of 409's crew sat up from Saturday evening to early morning hours Sunday listening to the Captain's sea stories. We heard exploits of the 189 during WWII and of the 409's 51' tour of Korea.

The closing meeting took place with the final decision to have the next reunion in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We set the date, at the meeting, for October 2nd - 4th  in 2003.  That date was picked because it was nearest to the first of October. That time of the year the weather should be pleasant to enjoy our Wisconsin colors.

One of the requests made for activities: A tour of the Great Lakes Naval Training Centre. If enough care for this, I will check into it. In a follow up letter, I will give the availability of events and places you may want to see during your stay in Milwaukee.

     That is it for now.

The occasion was a  special reunion for Captain Stewart in his home town of Montesano, Washington.

A special thanks to the photography work of Dave Maldet as well as Guy Epperly for forwarding these photos from the 2002 reunion. There are some who we can not identify. If you can help, see someone who is mid-identified please e-mail me and I will be happy to correct the captions. If you right click on the image it will give you a number that you can reference for corrections. I have also put the 30+ photos on four pages so they will not take too long to load. As I did not attend the reunion I have done the best under the circumstances. Please excuse any mis-spelling of names, etc. I am happy to correct them. Enjoy!
